many people still keep forgetting to throw away the perfumes and strong fragrances at my hall.
it is a big thing in some congregations to wear it.
i have heard that most churches stay away from it.
Thanks for the kind words Friendly.
I try to manage my fragrance allergy rather quietly. I truly appreciate the folks that know I have some difficulties, but am always prepared with my antihistamine. Haven't missed work, but it's a great 'excuse' for staying away from the poorly vented KH. I don't like calling attention to myself or creating a scene. As I mentioned before, it's usually the florals, price doesn't seem to matter, that bother me the most. Food smells, apple, cinnamon, vanilla, peppermint - these usually only make my nose tickle. Some lavendars are okay, and milder sandalwoods, but I have to be careful with these. It's been real tough because I love flowers, I love lavendar, and I really like sandalwood. And I really like scented candles. But as someone else said, clean is a good smell too. Don't need the heavy perfumes if you bathe regularly and wear clean clothes. Line dryed laundry smells heavenly! And yes, it would be really helpful if we all could be sensitive to each other's needs and a bit more considerate.

note: all single apostrophes have been deleted by simon's software from this word document i just pasted here.. .
one of the problems with any discussion board is that it doesnt allow us much of an opportunity to show other dimensions of ourselves.
my great passion is and has always been serious music.
You rocky Farkel! My fav is Moonlight Sonata but also like Hungarian Rhapsody #2 in C Sharp Minor by Franz Liszt and almost any by Serge Rachmaninoff. Will keep my ears ready to be entertained!

Re: Convention program starting late
The chief Gestapo attendant supposedly had the opening part for the day and was delayed because of trying to deal with Richard. The attendants told Richard he was disturbing folks to which he replied something about 'I think they are supporting me - do you have pedophiles here? or are you protecting pedophiles?' ...something like that. They couldn't touch him!

Farkel, I most humbly accept your correction. Richard was concerned about getting roughed up by the attendants. But he came away unscathed, perhaps a little weary from the heat.
Dungbeetle, yes Frances was there. She was driving the air conditioned get away car.
By the way, did you all know that Richard was wearing a T-shirt that advertised the silentlambs website and phone number. It also had the universal no sign over something like WT abuse (stop WT abuse)...wish I could remember exactly what it said. Anyway, created quite a stir on the convention floor. Caused the convention to start late. He's not called "Richard the Rotweiller" for nothing!
Wish we could have seen it!

my daughter went with a friend to the district convention today (i did not attend).
here is the text message that she sent from her cell phone:.
" so bored.......dying slowly".
LOL Farkel - good smelling books, and chocolate pudding! fruit bags, flat cheese Danishes, and "Jehoagies." It's not what it used to be....or maybe I just grew up, saw the light (or lack of light?)

If you knew Richard Rawe you would know that it was a 'storm.' He is a one man tornado in all matters anti WT. According to Richard the protesters had quite an audience. He also told us that at the lunch break any who stopped to listen to the protest were approached by attendants and asked what congregation they were from, their name, etc. Made quite an impact I hear. So maybe they were only a few, but because of their impact they created quite a stir, much like a summer storm (which they also got in Tri-cities last night I hear).

This is a really sensitive topic for some. I personally am severely allergice to certain floral fragrances, chemical and organic (lilacs, gardenias, honeysuckle, hyacinth, jasmine, to name just a few). Before I stopped going to meetings I had spent almost a year sitting in the second school when I came to meetings, then had to high tail it outside the KH whe meeting was over. I had tactfully explained to a few who enjoyed wearing frangrances that I could not breathe in the KH when they wore their perfume/cologne, and would it be possible for them to just not wear it. One sister was quite insistent that I had a personal problem with her and that I had imagined my allergy. The other was a younger bethel bound brother. He complied with my request for a while but then went back to wearing it again. So I started taking strong antihistamines to avoid having a severe reaction, as each time I was exposed my symptoms were a little worse. Unfortunately (or maybe it was a good thing) the only effective meds also made me drowsy and loopey. The Doc gave me one of the newer non drowsy meds to try but the side effects were too severe. So my ultimate solution was to just stay home.
How do I handle it at work? Several co-workers like perfume but know I stop breathing when they wear it. So they just don't wear it on the days we are in the office together. They are non JWs, very kind and considerate about this. No complaints, no ill will toward my allergy. I don't want to be allergic. I love flowers! I wish it was all in my head and that I could make this change. It is not easy living with a fragrance allergy. It's difficult to find cleaning products, shampoos, lotions, etc. that don't make me ill. And yes, there are fragrance free alternatives - most are very expensive. So if I were going to choose a health problem it would not be this one!

in my post, only waiting for this moment, i told about the baby birds in the nest out on my patio.
well, the little guys are striking out on their own.
here they are perched on the fan that hangs in the covered area of the patio, a good six feet from their nest.
How adorable! They look like barn swallows. I'm surprised you were able to get out of your house without getting a close fly-by from mom and dad birdies.

The WT writers are real slick. How many rank and file sit with their eyes glazed over during WT study? It is so easy for their minds to absorb whatever is fed to them - a recent WT had picture of the elders with a caption that says something about "appointed elders" which is so close to "anointed elders." Subtle and perhaps subliminal. But maybe I'm paranoid and picky. I see so much I didn't see before!
